 Basics work best

We have a saying here at Fortius; ‘boring basics work best’ which we believe to be true as it’s a proven and tried system that Head Coach Ramey has used and experienced throughout the years. We coach you to do the basics well (squat, hinge, push, pull, lunge, bridge, brace and rotate) which sets the foundations and building blocks for everything you do here. We can progress you on loading and skills once you have mastered the basics. Basics will always be at the heart of everything we do.

 Task over ego

We promote a ‘no dick head’ policy here at Fortius and you will notice we have no mirrors in our gym. We focus on the task over any ego driven lifting. We coach to a high standard by teaching you correct and safe lifting/loading techniques. We will not let egos increase risk of injury with our risk/reward mindsets here. You earn the right at Fortius to progress on our exercise curriculum and your weights when you are ready and safely able to do so

 Compound lifts first,  Isolation second

Head Coach Ramey developed an exercise curriculum which all staff members, coaches, and interns will follow to deliver to our members. This curriculum is based on Ramey’s experience and knowledge on what works best and gets results. We focus on the compound lifts first as these are the strength lifts that use multiple muscle groups at one time that get the most bang for your buck. Isolation exercises and assistant exercises come next to supplement the big lifts.

 Your best on the day is  good enough 

We know that our members have their own busy lives and for each person the gym means something different. We understand that some days your training may not go exactly how you planned but that’s why here at Fortius we want your best on the day as this is good enough for us. Showing up and performing your best is better than missing a session. Every session counts and with our knowledge and expertise each session can be adapted and scaled when needed.

 Strong is for everyone

Fortius is Latin for Strength. Everything at Fortius is underpinned by strength and we believe that strong is for everyone. This will look different for all members. Strength training should be in everyone’s routine as it helps with general day to day activities that people take for granted until they are older or develop an injury or illness that may make this more difficult. Strength training helps make these easier, helps reduce the risk of injury and is recommended by doctors, physios in all aspects of life.

 Adherence Attendance  Adaptation 

Another saying we have here at Fortius is consistency is key. It’s important that you show up to your sessions, adhere to the program and the adaptions will come. We have the knowledge and expertise to do that. There is no magic formula. You must be patience and trust the process. Results don’t come over night nor when you only stick at it for 4 weeks.

 Quality over quantity

Here at Fortius we will always take quality movements over how many reps you can do. It’s easy to ‘beast’ someone which is a phrase commonly used in the fitness industry by just giving them a lot of reps. We know how to develop physical qualities and what that looks like from reps, sets, recoveries and movements etc. We will always encourage quality movements which links to our basics work best philosophy above.

We care about our members at Fortius and promote ownership. We are a community of like-minded people each supporting and aspiring each other to reach their goals. We get to know our members which helps us to individually plan for them within our SGPT service. We pride ourselves on our service to our members and with the help of our traffic light system check in this is made achievable on a weekly basis. We coach hard and promote ownership which leads to members not needing us but wanting to work with us.

 Only time efficient  quality workouts

Everything in life has a time constraint and in knowing this you want to make the most or get the best out of the time you have. Here at Fortius every workout has a time constraint, so we want the best quality workout in the time that we have. There are no wishy-washy workouts with no purpose as we know how to drive adaptions here and make changes. From out exercise choices, order, sets, reps and recoveries everything is planned to be efficient and effective.

What gets measured gets managed

One of our core values here at Fortius is results and we believe we get the best results because this is one of our training and coaching philosophies. It all about the numbers, what gets measured gets managed. We teach you how to do this and what it looks like. To make progress you need to know where you’re at so you can adjust accordingly. There’s no guessing when it comes to results. We promote ownership and provide you with the tools and knowledge to do this.
